Washington, D.C. --- House Armed Services Committee Chairman Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-Calif.) today released the following statement lauding legislation introduced by Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) that would cut the Department of Defense’s $357 million budget for printing and reproduction by ten percent overall:

"Congressman West’s legislation represents a small--but significant—step toward rooting out and cutting waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending. A mere ten percent reduction to this one account would save taxpayers nearly $180 million over the next five years. Especially at a time when American families are making great sacrifices, there is no reason for the Pentagon to waste taxpayer dollars winning stylistic points with expensive glossy briefing books.

“When it comes to our national defense, we have a responsibility to ensure every dollar is spent wisely and effectively to promote the common defense. Congressman West’s legislation is another important step in fulfilling that responsibility.”
