Hunter Statement on New National Intelligence Estimate on Iran’s Nuclear Activities

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. House Armed Services Committee Senior Republican Duncan Hunter (R-CA) today released the following statement on the intelligence community’s newest National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iran’s nuclear intentions and capabilities:

Rep. Hunter’s statement follows:

“The intelligence community’s new assessment and the latest International Atomic Energy Agency report highlight the many unanswered questions that exist about Iran’s nuclear weapons capabilities and intentions.

“This national intelligence estimate confirms that Iran has the key pieces to eventually develop nuclear weapons, including the scientific, technical and industrial capacity.

“While it appears that international scrutiny and pressure have helped slow down Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the United States and its allies must not attempt to hide from the reality of Iran’s nuclear programs.  We must face this reality and its future implications squarely.  And we must develop and implement a policy that sets a clear expectation that Iran will not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.”
