Washington, D.C. – Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), senior Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement commending the Senate confirmation of the Honorable Pete Geren as Secretary of the United States Army:
“I’m proud that the Senate confirmed my good friend, Pete Geren, as the next Army Secretary. Pete is a superb former member of the Armed Services Committee and I have full confidence in his ability to faithfully serve the men and women of the Army.
“Pete’s background and service to our nation has uniquely prepared him to lead the Army at this critical time in its history. The Army is carrying a heavy burden in Iraq and Afghanistan while also transforming itself into a 21st Century fighting force.
“Pete’s experience in Congress and within the Defense Department will facilitate the House Armed Services Committee’s ongoing efforts to support the Department of the Army. We look forward to working with him in his new role.”
