Hunter Statement on Alcatel-Lucent Merger

Washington, D.C. --- Today, the U.S. House Armed Services Committee held a closed briefing to receive information from government and industry officials regarding the national security implications of French-based Alcatel’s merger with American-based Lucent Technologies.

 “The process to evaluate the national security implications of the merger between Alcatel and Lucent is incomplete at this point,” said Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), chairman of the committee.  “The House Armed Services Committee is going to work over the next couple of days to get more information.”     

Officials appearing before the committee included the Honorable Gordon England, Deputy Secretary of Defense; the Honorable Clay Lowery, Assistant Secretary of Treasury for International Affairs; Patricia Russo, Chief Executive Officer of Lucent Technologies; and Mike Quigley, Chief Operating Officer of Alcatel.
