Armed Services Committee Ranking Member McHugh Statement on President Obama’s Address to Congress

Washington, D.C. – U.S. House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member John M. McHugh (R-NY) today released the following statement regarding President Barack Obama’s historic address to the U.S. Congress:

“Republicans join with the President tonight in recognizing the service and sacrifice of our brave men and women in uniform, and the loved ones who bolster them on the home front.  They all deserve our gratitude and support, and we will work with the President to ensure that our military families have the pay, health care, and benefits they have earned.

“This evening the President clearly articulated many of the national security challenges facing America.  While Republicans may not agree on all of the solutions proffered in his speech, we appreciate the President’s candor in presenting these issues to Congress and the American people.

“We look forward to reviewing the initial details of the President’s budget it is forwarded to Congress later this week and the comprehensive submission that we will receive in the coming months.  Specifically, Republicans will work to ensure that the Administration continues to fund the near-term capabilities that our troops need to win in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the tools that will be required to win the wars of the future.”
