Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Detainee Affairs Slams proposal

One signatory of a letter to House Armed Services Committee Chairman, Rep. Buck McKeon, Charles "Cully" Stimson appeared on FOX News today to express his concerns about the pending Smith-Amash amendment on extending constitutional protections to foreign terrorist detainees. As a former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Detainee Affairs, Stimson offers a stark picture of what adoption of the Smith-Amash amendment would look like:

"Unfortunately, other members of Congress have introduced proposed legislation that
would instead erode the authorities provided by the AUMF and limit the military’s ability to
pursue terrorists...,"
according the the letter

"Rewarding terrorists with greater rights for making it to the United States
would actually incentivize them to come to our shores, or to recruit from within the United States,
where they pose the greatest risk to the American people.  Such a result is perverse."
