Press Release

WASHINGTON - Today, the House passed HASC member Rep. Jackie Walorski’s (R–IN) bill to temporarily block all Guantanamo Bay detainee transfers.  Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said the following upon its passage:

“This week, the American people got further evidence that despite President Obama’s assurances, terrorists he released from Guantanamo Bay have returned to the fight. Former detainees have targeted and taken American lives.

“This Administration continues to show that they cannot be trusted to keep terrorists out of the fight.   The time has come to suspend the detainee transfer power.  I commend Rep. Walorski for her leadership on this issue and for her bill to stop these dangerous transfers."
