WASHINGTON, DC - This morning, Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-TX), of the House Armed Services Committee, made the following remarks upon the shut down of the federal government:
"For some time, an agreement on government funding has been delayed because of an unrelated immigration issue. Many of us support a responsible solution for those brought to the U.S. illegally as children. But no issue, including this one, should prevent the 2 million men and women serving in the United States military and their families from getting the funding and support they need to do the job we have asked them to do. It is wrong to hold them hostage for any other issue or for anyone’s political agenda."
"Other issues can be decided on their own merits. Our military should be set free from this political drama with a full year appropriation bill at the authorized level of funding."
