Washington D.C. –Rep. Jim Saxton, (R-NJ), ranking Republican on the Air and Land Forces Subcommittee, today released the following opening statement for the joint Air and Land Forces Subcommittee and Seapower and Expeditionary Forces Subcommittee on Department of Defense aircraft programs:
“Thank you Mr. Chairman. We have an extraordinary group of witnesses with us today and I’d like to start by welcoming them all. Gentlemen, thank you for your testimony.
“We have quite a challenge before us today. We have a very brief amount of time - just a few hours in fact - to hear about the Department’s aviation program requirements and the Fiscal Year 08 budget request. In the time we have, we need to talk about the Joint Strike Fighter engine program, the Army’s helicopter recapitalization requirements, strike fighter shortfalls in the Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force, the next generation long range strike plan, the V-22 program, bomber force structure, CSAR-X, airborne electronic attack requirements, and the Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter…and that’s just the non-controversial stuff.
“That being said, I’ll terminate my comments now so that we can get on to hearing from the witnesses.”
