Hunter Calls MoveOn.org Ad a Slap in the Face of Every Member of the Armed Forces

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), senior Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, today criticized MoveOn.org for attacking the integrity of America’s top general in Iraq through a full-page advertisement in today’s New York Times (attached).  Hunter also called on the leadership of the Democrat party to repudiate the ad.

Rep. Hunter’s statement follows:

“The political group MoveOn.org has finally taken the last political move available to get the United States to stampede in retreat from Iraq.  Their full page ad calling General David Petraeus ‘General Betray Us’ is the full unveiling of this organization as a left wing anti-military organization.

“General Petraeus is an American soldier.  His professional life is a reflection of adherence to duty, honor and country.

“For the Democrat leadership to allow this slur by their ‘Move On’ allies to stand would be a slap in the face of every member of the Armed Forces.  I call on the Leadership of the Democrat Party to denounce this advertisement and disassociate themselves from it.”
