PARIS - Yesterday, a Congressional Delegation led by Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and including Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO), Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH) and Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX), honored the fallen at the Belleau Wood Battlefield , and the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in Belleau, France.

The Battle of Belleau Wood took place in June, 1918 and was one of the first engagements for American forces during WWI.  The Delegation laid a wreath in honor of those killed during this important battle.

Commenting on the visit, Thornberry said, “As we all pause to honor the fallen on Memorial Day, I am glad to have had the opportunity to visit this important place.  The Soldiers and Marines who fell here a century ago laid the foundations for the world order that ensures our freedom today.  Now that world order is under threat.  We took a moment today to say a prayer for the fallen.  A century later, we still have work to do if we are truly going to honor their sacrifice and uphold the freedom they paid for so dearly.”
