Labor Department Guidance Memo Scrutinized Further

Businesses “could be opening yourselves up to lawsuits if you don’t provide this warning.” – Rep. Allen West

Washington – Appearing on Fox News, House Armed Services Committee member Rep. Allen West (FL) criticized the recent Labor Department memo that discourages businesses from issuing WARN notices to their employees as a result of Sequestration. Despite that the sequestration deadline is rapidly approaching and inaction by the Senate and President Obama is making it more likely, the Department still does not see the need to give defense workers notice to protect themselves and their families from layoffs. The Department memo goes so far to say “to provide such notice [WARN] would be inconsistent with the purpose of the WARN Act.” Fox News Host Eric Bolling said that “the timing [of the memo] certainly feels political to me.” Watch the segment below:
