MAINTAINING VITAL EQUIPMENT
THE PROBLEM:
Years of underfunding, high operational tempo, and repeated continuing resolutions have resulted in an enormous backlog of military equipment waiting to be repaired. Everything from trucks, tanks, ships, and planes is involved in this backlog. As a result, it is harder for our troops to find working equipment to train or deploy with, and the platforms that do function are being run into the ground through over-use.
WHAT WE ARE DOING TODAY:
Under the current Continuing Resolution, the Department is only able to maintain the equipment essential for deploying troops, while putting off work on equipment needed for training or other contingencies. This makes the backlog of broken equipment worse, not better.
WHAT WE COULD BE DOING:
The House Passed NDAA increased maintenance accounts across the board by $3.4 billion, to begin to clear the backlog and get our troops the working equipment they need.
