Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, made the following statement upon the announcement of former Governor Rick Perry as the next Secretary of Energy:

"I look forward to working with Governor Perry as the Secretary of Energy. Much of DoE’s budget and responsibility is focused on maintaining our nuclear deterrent. We are in a critical time when there is much work to do to ensure that the deterrent is safe, secure, reliable, and credible. The House Armed Services Committee will continue to be heavily involved in working with DoE and the new Secretary to support this essential element of our nation’s security."
