House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry is firing back at critics who say that the NDAA is "irresponsible” and will “force the new President to request a supplemental within weeks of taking office:”

"The Democrats and President Obama were for this approach before they were against it. Back in 2008, not only did President Obama vote in favor of a bridge fund to meet operational needs for the first months of an incoming administration, so did presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, Secretary Kerry and Vice President Biden.

This NDAA begins to correct deficiencies in our military readiness, it reverses cuts to troop strength, it increases investments in training and maintenance programs, and it rebuilds crumbling facilities. It gives our troops the full pay raise to which they are entitled under the law. It also provides the next administration the ability to review operations and funding, make adjustments, and ask for more money if necessary. It gives the new president a genuine opportunity to prioritize our national defense while supporting our men and women in uniform.”
