Today, Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, made the following statement in remembrance of September 11, 2001:
“Fourteen years ago, innocent Americans were savagely killed by al Qaeda terrorists. Every day since the attacks, as we mourn those killed, our men and women in uniform have prevented future attacks by taking the fight to the enemy. The same ideology that inspired terrorists to fly planes into buildings is driving a new generation of Islamic extremists. The shape of the fight has changed, but the threat is no less real and the need to continue the fight no less urgent. Last week, I had the honor of visiting our troops in Afghanistan. The impact they are making in that country, while they continue to protect our own, is inspiring. We have achieved a lot over the past fourteen years, and our military presence around the world has made the crucial difference. Much remains to be done, and now is not the time to withdraw."
