U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL), Lead Republican of the House Armed Services Committee, released a statement following the news that ISIS leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi was killed in a U.S. counterterrorism raid in Syria:
"I am proud of the heroic work of our Special Forces.
"The raid last night also demonstrated the importance of U.S. partnerships on the ground to conduct successful counterterrorism operations. It's why Biden's Afghanistan ‘strategy' of relying on ‘over-horizon counterterrorism capabilities' to hold some of the world's most dangerous and depraved individuals accountable will ultimately fail without those ground-based partnerships.
"Our resolve remains strong and we will continue to take the fight to those that try to harm America."
