Rogers Statement on Reports That Biden will Waive Nord Stream 2 Sanctions
Washington, DC,
May 19, 2021
U.S. Representative Mike Rogers, the Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee, released a statement regarding reports that President Biden will waive sanctions on Russia's Nord Stream 2 Pipeline: "While President Biden has killed countless American jobs by halting pipeline projects here in America, he has no qualms about enabling Russia, a foreign adversary, to build its own with Nord Stream 2. President Biden has claimed time and time again that he will be tough on Russia but now, when faced with a challenge, he has reportedly decided to waive sanctions on a company run by an ex-Stasi intelligence officer and Putin crony. Biden's own Secretary of State, Antony Blinken said during his confirmation hearing, regarding Nord Stream 2, that he was ‘[d]etermined to do whatever we can to prevent that completion.' The administration faltered on that promise and now President Biden is handing the Kremlin a huge win. I urge the Biden administration to reverse course on this action before it's too late." ###
