Delegation Concludes Indo-Pacific Mission at Shangri-La Dialogue

SINGAPORE - A congressional delegation led by Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and including Reps Mike Conaway (R-TX), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Vicky Hartzler (R-MO), and Carol Shea-Porter (D-NH), concluded their travels in the Indo-Pacific region by attending the Shanghai-La Dialogue, a regional security conference in Singapore. The delegation met with US Secretary of Defense James Mattis and held bilateral discussions with senior officials from Singapore, Vietnam, Australia, South Korea, and Japan. Concluding the visit, Chairman Thornberry said:

"So much of America's prosperity and security depends on what happens in the Indo-Pacific. It is a region that is under increasing pressure from aggressive Chinese policies, North Korean nuclear weapons, and terrorism. The region is also home to some of America's closest alliances and most promising new partnerships. It is vital that America, as an Indo-Pacific power, speak with one voice about our dedication to this region. We must continue to make that rhetoric reality with resources and policies that will reassure our friends and deter aggression. I believe that is what this delegation of Republicans and Democrats has done this week, and it is what Congress must continue to do in the years ahead."
