Today, Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, made the following remarks after a briefing with the Commandant and other Marine leadership about the latest on the Marines United investigation: "I remain disturbed and disappointed by the degrading treatment of service members. "There is a societal cultural problem with how we treat each other, especially on social media. But, we can and should hold military service members to a higher standard. I know they expect more from each other, for this kind of behavior erodes the bonds of trust that are essential for a successful military to operate. To that end, it is appropriate that Congress see that there is accountability and that justice is done. "It is clear to me that General Neller is willing to own the problem and that he and Sergeant Major Green are resolved to fix it. Our Committee is resolved to see that it is fixed as well." |
