Thornberry on DOD Spectrum Sharing

Press Release

WASHINGTON- Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, made the following statement on Department of Defense efforts to facilitate spectrum sharing as part of an effort to accelerate 5G deployment:

“Our nation’s need for spectrum will continue to increase. The DoD’s announcement to pursue innovative new spectrum sharing technologies that would free up 5G bandwidth while simultaneously protecting the essential needs of our military is encouraging. By doing things the way we have always done them, we risk the United States being left behind in the next generation of wireless capabilities. I am pleased to see that the Department is willing to explore ways to share the valuable mid-band spectrum that is so critical for our economy, our security, and our nation’s future. I am concerned, however, that DOD is still not moving at the appropriate speed given the on-going efforts by China and others. We must move out faster.”
