The Readiness Subcommittee ensures that America’s warfighters and the equipment they train with are ready, well supported and maintained, and prepared for combat operations. It makes careful investments to improve readiness and reduce risk.

Specifically, this year's proposal:
-    Provides for increased military construction above the President’s Budget request.
-    Does not provide for an additional Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) round.
-    Provides the Department of Defense with flexibility for hiring civilians to fill critical manpower capability gaps.
-    Directs several assessments of the military departments’ plans to rebuild readiness, enhance exercises, and modernize training requirements.
-    Provides additional flexibility to support investments in DOD laboratory and test & evaluation facilities and infrastructure, as well clarifying the authorities for converting and re-purposing older facilities.
