Washington, D.C. --- Following a briefing with the United States Marine Corps earlier today, U.S. House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) released the following statement:

“The point of this briefing was to review the status, breadth, depth and schedule of the Haditha investigation.

“The charge of the Armed Services Committee is not to weigh in on the substantive legal actions—but to ensure the process has integrity.  At this point, it appears that the Marine Corps is conducting the process with strict adherence to the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

“Further briefings will follow.”
