SASC and HASC Chairmen Release Statements on Reconciliation Legislation to Modernize our Military and Strengthen National Defense

Washington, DC, April 27, 2025

Today, the House Armed Services Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Mike Rogers (R-AL), unveiled legislation to invest $150 billion in defense priorities to achieve President Trump’s Peace Through Strength agenda. The House and Senate Armed Services Committees developed this legislation in close conjunction with the White House to modernize America’s military, secure the border, and strengthen national security.

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers and U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statements upon its release:

“This legislation is a historic investment of $150 billion to restore America’s military capabilities and strengthen our national defense,” Chairman Rogers said. “Our military’s resources have declined over the years, and defense spending as a percentage of GDP has dropped to the lowest levels since before WWII. Our defense industrial base has weakened. America’s deterrence is failing and without a generational investment in our national defense, we will lose the ability to defeat our adversaries. With this bill, we have the opportunity to get back on track and restore our national security and global leadership. President Trump has a visionary strategy of Peace through Strength, and this investment is how we begin to execute it. I’m looking forward to passing this bill and building a ready, capable, and lethal fighting force.”

“This legislation represents a generational upgrade for our nation’s defense capabilities, including historic investments in new technology.” Chairman Wicker said. “This is about building the future of American defense, achieving peace through strength, and ultimately deterring war. H.Con.Res.14  includes reconciliation instructions that direct 11 House committees to submit legislation that will increase or decrease the deficit over FY2025-FY2034 and increase the statutory debt limit by specified amounts.

Sen.Con.Res.7 includes reconciliation instructions that direct several House and Senate committees to report legislation that will increase or decrease the deficit over FY2025-FY2034 by specified amounts.
