SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA — Beginning a four-nation visit focused on strengthening our Indo-Asia-Pacific alliances and partnerships, a bipartisan congressional delegation led by Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-TX) arrived in Seoul to meet with top U.S. and South Korean military and top government officials.

"Our troops have stood side-by-side with the South Koreans for more than 60 years defending democracy and ensuring stability on the peninsula and in the region. It was fitting that we spent time with General Brooks and his troops over Memorial Day weekend to thank them for their hard work in maintaining this tradition," said Chairman Thornberry.

South Korea, an important U.S. ally, plays a central role in security and stability of the Asia-Pacific. The country's new President, Moon Jae-in, recently committed to an increase in defense spending, which the delegation expressed gratitude for when meeting with several top officials. The leaders discussed a range of issues, including continued provocations by North Korea.

"The U.S.-South Korea alliance is as critical today as it ever has been. We appreciate the sustained and significant investment South Korea makes in defense. They provide a strong example for other nations to follow," said Thornberry.

Members of the delegation joining Chairman Mac Thornberry (R-TX) include Rep. Madeleine Bordallo (D-Guam), Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL), Rep Austin Scott (R-GA), Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA), Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-FL), Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-CA), and Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI).
