Thornberry Announces Selection for National Commission on the Future of the U.S. Army

Appoints General Carter Ham, (USA ret.)

Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, today selected General Carter Ham (USA ret.) to serve on the National Commission on the Future of the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, General Ham was most recently Commander of U.S. Africa Command. In selecting Ham to the post, Thornberry said:

"General Ham has led our forces in combat and has spent his retirement looking out for Soldiers. As a former enlisted man who rose to be one of America's top generals, I can't think of anyone who has more appropriate experience to serve on this panel. This Commission comes at an important time as Congress and the Department struggle to balance scarce resources against rising threats. The Commission's work in taking a holistic and independent view of Army structure will be invaluable."
