Today, the House Passed H.R. 4909 (277-147), the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2017. Upon passage, Chairman Thornberry (R-TX), of the House Armed Services Committee, made the following statement: "This bipartisan bill supports the men and women who volunteer to put their lives on the line in defense of our county, while preserving and protecting the national security of the United States of America in a very dangerous world. It does these things by beginning to correct shortfalls in our military readiness, reversing troop cuts, increasing investments in training and maintenance programs, and rebuilding crumbling facilities. It gives our troops the full pay raise to which they are entitled under the law and provides the next administration the ability to review operations and funding, make adjustments, and ask for more money if necessary. I am hopeful that as the bill moves forward, we can put excuses, politics, and election-year rhetoric aside and do right by our men and women in uniform.” Chairman Thornberry and other Members will participate in a press conference tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
