U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, released a statement on China's growing nuclear capabilities revealed in the Department of Defense's recent report on Military and Security Developments Involving the People's Republic of China.
"The Department of Defense's latest report makes clear that China is continuing to expand its nuclear forces, and it is moving even faster than anticipated. While China is building missiles and warheads at an astonishing rate, the U.S. cannot produce a single new ICBM or nuclear warhead. Senior military leaders have warned Congress of these developments for years, but the Biden administration has willfully ignored these warnings. Instead of meeting this threat, the Biden administration is apparently discussing harebrained schemes to bring Chinese and Russian observers into U.S. nuclear weapons sites. Earlier this year, U.S. Strategic Command informed the Committee that China has surpassed the U.S. in the number of ICBM launchers, based on the information in today's report, I am concerned that China will soon surpass us in the number of operational ICBMs. Our nuclear deterrent won't be a deterrent for long if we don't move faster to modernize it."
