Rogers: Biden’s Negligence Led to Fall of Afghanistan

U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, released a statement on the two-year anniversary of the fall of the Afghan government to the Taliban.

"Two years ago today, Afghanistan fell to the Taliban. Months prior, I had repeatedly warned President Biden that withdrawing from Afghanistan, without a plan, would lead to disaster. Unfortunately, President Biden ignored Congress and his senior military leaders – the result was a catastrophic and deadly withdrawal.

"President Biden told the American people that there would be ‘no circumstance' where you would see people being lifted off the roof of a U.S. embassy in Afghanistan. Yet, on August 15, 2021, that's what happened.

"President Biden's negligence led to the Abbey Gate suicide bombing that resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. servicemembers, Afghan women and children being stripped of their basic human rights and freedoms, and Afghanistan once again becoming a hotspot for terrorists who seek to harm the United States.

"To this day, not one member of the Biden administration has been held accountable for their botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. Congress will continue to investigate the Biden administration's catastrophic withdrawal and we will hold his administration accountable for what occurred."
