Thornberry on Weinstein & Lo Porto
Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, made the following statement regarding the death of Warren Weinstein and Giovanni Lo Porto, hostages being held by al Qaeda. Today the White House announced that Weinstein and Lo Porto were killed in a counterterrorism operation:
"I want to extend my deepest condolences to the families of Warren Weinstein and Giovanni Lo Porto, as we do for all those who have lost loved ones at the hands of terrorists. The circumstances of their deaths only compound the tragedy, and I look forward to learning more about the operation involved. We cannot lose sight of who is truly to blame for the deaths of Weinstein and Lo Porto; the al Qaeda terrorists who kidnapped them. Al Qaeda intentionally puts hostages and civilians in harm's way in hopes of pressuring us to curtail our efforts. We cannot let our regret over this tragic incident dampen our resolve to end the terrorist threat to all Americans."
