Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities, made the following statement after a classified briefing on recent Counterterrorism Operations, including the recent operation in Yemen: "Today, the Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee received its regular, full update on recent Counterterrorism Operations conducted by the Department of Defense and with the Interagency. The Subcommittee invited all members of the HASC to attend. This classified update included a thorough briefing and discussion on the planning, execution, and outcome of the recent operation in Yemen. Today was an opportunity for Members on both sides of the aisle to get their questions answered and correct the record on inaccurate news reporting. It was also a chance to have facts presented so Members can better understand the planning and execution of these complicated operations. As part of its congressional oversight, the Department of Defense is mandated by law to notify the defense committees in a timely manner of all sensitive military operations such as those discussed today. Additionally, this subcommittee will continue to briefed by the Department of Defense on a Quarterly basis – if not more frequently –to ensure we remain current and fully informed on all of these activities." |
