United States Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL), Lead Republican of the House Armed Services Committee, released a statement after Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced the closure and defueling of Red Hill Bulk Fuel Storage in Hawaii.
"The wellbeing of our service members is paramount and the hardship that the Red Hill fuel leak has placed on service members and their families is unconscionable. I am worried that the decision to close the strategically vital fuel facility at Red Hill without a clear path to a new logistics plan for Indo-Pacific operations will put our national security in a vulnerable position. The Pentagon owes Congress and the American people answers about how they intend to support our warfighters and allies in the Pacific without a key wartime capability. Absent a plan this decision risks grave damage to our ability to deter Chinese aggression."
