Washington, D.C. — In the wake of a new White House legislative proposal for military commissions, witnesses testifying today before the House Armed Services Committee about the military commission process largely agreed with Chairman Duncan Hunter’s observation that the final legislative framework should allow for the fair and effective prosecution of enemy terrorists, while preserving the ability of our warfighters to operate effectively on the battlefield.  The six-witness panel consisted of each of the four military services’ top military lawyers, or Judge Advocate Generals, as well as the Justice Department’s Acting Assistant Attorney General and legal counsel to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Henry "Trey" Obering and the staff of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and its industry’s partners on today’s successful exercise and flight test which involved the launch of a ground-based interceptor missile designed to protect the United States against a limited long-range ballistic missile attack. The test took place this morning from the Ronald W. Reagan Missile Defense Site located at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California.

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. House Armed Services Committee Chairman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) today announced, along with the support of Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John Warner (R-VA), that the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007 will include increased funding for combat readiness and equipment reset.  The emergency bridge fund included in the annual defense authorization bill would be increased by $20 billion, raising the current authorization from $50 billion to $70 billion.
