Hunter Welcomes Senate Confirmations of Generals David Petraeus and Ray Odierno
Washington D.C. – U.S. House Armed Services Committee Ranking Republican Duncan Hunter (R-CA) today released the following statement regarding the Senate confirmations of General David Petraeus as commander of U.S. Central Command and General Ray Odierno as commander of Multi-National Force-Iraq:
“Both of these gentlemen will provide superb leadership in their respective commands.
“Having succeeded in setting the U.S. on the course to victory in Iraq, General Petraeus now turns his attention to overseeing our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as engaging our partners throughout the Middle East. I have full confidence in his capabilities to lead these efforts, and look forward to his contributions as we meet increased challenges in Afghanistan.
“As the former commander of U.S. and coalition operational troops in Iraq, General Odierno is not a stranger to the complex challenges that he’ll face as the commander of Multi-National Force-Iraq. He clearly understands the situation on the ground and was instrumental in implementing the new counter-insurgency strategy that has worked so effectively.”
