Hunter Welcomes Rep. Rob Wittman to the Armed Services Committee

Rep. Lamborn Appointed to Air and Land Forces Subcommittee

Washington D.C. – House Armed Services Committee Ranking Republican Duncan Hunter (R-CA) today welcomed Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA) to the House Armed Services Committee and announced new subcommittee assignments. Rep. Wittman has been appointed to two subcommittees—the Seapower and Expeditionary Forces Subcommittee and the Readiness Subcommittee. Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO), formerly assigned to the Seapower and Expeditionary Forces Subcommittee, has been appointed to the Air and Land Forces Subcommittee; and he will continue to serve on the Readiness Subcommittee.

"These new subcommittee assignments will serve these members well: Mr. Wittman with a strong constituency in the sea services and a heavy Navy and Marine Corps presence, and Mr. Lamborn with a large number of Army and Air Force installations," said Rep. Hunter.

"The First Congressional District has a long tradition of representation on the Armed Services Committee, and I am honored to continue that legacy as the newest member of the Committee. My predecessors, Herb Bateman and Jo Ann Davis, served on the Committee with great distinction, and I am privileged to have the opportunity to resume their work and serve the fine men and women who protect our freedoms at home and abroad.  I look forward to working with Ranking Member Duncan Hunter and my other colleagues on the Committee," said Rep. Wittman.

"Home to five military installations, the Fifth District of Colorado is one of the most military-intensive congressional districts in our nation. Our strong military presence plays a critical role in protecting our nation from our enemies and it has a substantial impact in shaping our local economy. I have the honor of representing these military installations on the House Armed Services Committee and now, I have the privilege of representing them on the Air and Land Forces Subcommittee. This subcommittee assignment will help me to do an even better job of representing our military interests and will prove to greatly benefit the Army post and the four Air Force installations in the Fifth District as well as the entire Colorado Springs region," said Congressman Lamborn.

The Subcommittee on Air and Land Forces has jurisdiction over all Army and Air Force acquisition programs (except strategic missiles, special operations and information technology programs), as well as deep strike bombers and related systems, National Guard and Army and Air Force reserve modernization, and ammunition programs.

The Subcommittee on Readiness has jurisdiction over military readiness, training, logistics and maintenance issues and programs. In addition, the subcommittee is responsible for all military construction, installations and family housing issues, including the base closure process.

The Subcommittee on Seapower and Expeditionary Forces is responsible for Navy and Marine Corps programs (except strategic weapons, space, special operations and information technology programs) and Naval Reserve equipment. In addition, the subcommittee is responsible for Maritime programs under the jurisdiction of the Committee as delineated in rule X, clauses 5, 6, and 9 of the Rules of the House of Representatives.
