Washington D.C. – U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) today welcomed the final recommendations of the congressionally-created Commission on the National Guard and Reserves.  The non-partisan, independent commission was chartered under Hunter’s leadership as the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee to conduct a comprehensive review of the National Guard and the military’s reserve components.

House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Hunter’s statement follows:

“Since September 11th, we have asked more of our reserve components than at any other era in our modern history.  Brave National Guardsmen and Reservists are now deployed abroad in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as here at home on our southern border.  We must work to provide them with the equipment and training they need to successfully execute a broad array of difficult missions.

“I congratulate the Commission for its thorough work.  It provided Congress with thoughtful, broad-based recommendations that will be helpful to us as we begin to shape this year’s defense bill.  I’m committed to working with my friend Ike Skelton as we hold hearings on these recommendations.”
