Washington D.C. – U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), senior Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, today welcomed the release of The Manual for Military Commissions by the Department of Defense. The Military Commissions Manual, as required by the Military Commissions Act of 2006, sets the process and procedures for the full and fair prosecution of alien unlawful enemy combatants through military commissions.

“Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the alleged mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, and his cohorts are a step closer to trial,” said Rep. Hunter.  “While ensuring the fair and full prosecution of terrorists, the Military Commissions Manual preserves the ability of our warfighters to operate effectively on the battlefield.”

As chairman of the House Armed Services Committee in the 109th Congress, Hunter was a principal architect of the Military Commissions Act of 2006.  To download a copy of The Manual for Military Commissions, please visit https://www.defenselink.mil/pubs/.
