“It appears that the joint select committee will not meet their deadline to avoid sequestration. The men and women on that committee had a tough job with no easy choices before them.

"I am disappointed that the uncertainty regarding the future of our military budget, and the Joint Strike Fighter program in particular, have forced GE and Rolls Royce to discontinue self-funded development for a competitive engine for the F-35. This development is a blow to common-sense acquisition reform at the Department of Defense.
Washington – Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-Calif.) filed on behalf of the conferees this evening the Conference Report to accompany H.R. 1540, the FY2012 National Defense Authorization Act. The bill represents months of bipartisan work in both chambers of Congress. This year’s bill is a milestone, marking the 50th NDAA.
The 82%: New poll results show that 82 percent of respondents do not want the super committee to cut spending on defense programs, including programs for soldiers and veterans. In addition, the POLITICO/George Washington University Battleground Poll shows that more Americans would oppose efforts by the super committee to cut defense than would oppose the committee’s efforts to cut entitlement programs.
