On May 31, 2014, the Department of Defense transferred five detainees to Qatar from the Guantanamo Bay detention facility in connection with securing the recovery of U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl.
Immediately after the transfer, the Committee initiated an inquiry into this event. The inquiry’s purpose was to determine the circumstances under which the transfer violated provisions of the Fiscal Year 2014 National Defense Authorization Act, the process by which the transfer decision was made within the Department of Defense, the Administration's rationale for its actions, and how the transfer will affect national security. The report addresses these and related topics and can be found below and here.
