Washington D.C. – House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith made the following statement on the passing of former Chairman Ike Skelton:
Ike Skelton was a dedicated public servant committed to ensuring our national security and providing for the greater good. He was also a friend, a mentor and a truly unique individual.
As Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, he was a fierce and relentless advocate for the men and women in uniform. As a friend and mentor, he was a compassionate individual who truly cared about the wellbeing of others.
The passing of Ike Skelton is a terrible loss for our nation. Ike was giant in the lives of those who knew him, but he also affected the lives of so many who never had the opportunity to meet him.
In this difficult time, my thoughts and prayers are with Ike’s family, friends and loved ones.
