WASHINGTON - Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-CA), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, today commented on Iraq's decision to reject the U.S. request to extradite Ali Mussa Daqduq, the Lebanese Hezbollah figure held in connection with killing of five American soldiers in 2007.

“We are deeply disappointed in Iraq's decision not to extradite this
terrorist leader. We have long believed that the Obama administration made a critical mistake when they decided to turn Daqduq over to the Iraqis before the withdrawal of U.S. forces last year. This latest development is yet another unfortunate result of that original mistake. It makes it less likely that Daqduq will face justice for his role in the killing of American soldiers.”

“We remain very concerned that this Administration's handling regarding the ultimate disposition of high-value terrorists captured in Iraq and Afghanistan ignores the very real threat they continue to pose to U.S. National Security. We call upon the President and Secretary of Defense Panetta to extend all efforts to ensure that this tragic mistake is not repeated with terrorists currently in U.S. custody in Afghanistan.”
