Washington, D.C.—U.S. Rep. Howard P. “Buck” McKeon (R-Calif.), Chairman of House Armed Services Committee, today announced the appointments of subcommittee Chairmen for the 113th Congress. The subcommittee structure and jurisdictions will be ratified as part of the committee rules during a full House Armed Services Committee organizational meeting in January, following normal committee process.
“I selected these Members to be Subcommittee Chairmen for their long service on the Armed Services Committee and their dedication to our men and women in uniform. In the years ahead, this Committee must ensure our troops and their families have what they need to face increasing dangers abroad in an era of declining resources at home. That tension between threats and resources will present our subcommittees with difficult choices, but I am confident in the leadership of our Chairmen,” McKeon said.
“The key to fostering the well being of our military forces and the security of our country, is for subcommittees and their Chairmen to continue the longstanding bi-partisan tradition of the Armed Services Committee. I am honored that these Members have agreed to serve in this important work,” McKeon said.
The new subcommittee chairmen for the House Armed Services Committee in the 113th Congress are as follows:
• Emerging Threats and Capabilities – Rep. Mac Thornberry, Texas (bio), Full Committee Vice Chair
• Seapower and Projection Forces – Rep. J. Randy Forbes, Virginia (bio)
• Military Personnel – Rep. Joe Wilson, South Carolina (bio)
• Tactical Air and Land Forces – Rep. Mike Turner, Ohio (bio)
• Strategic Forces – Rep. Mike Rogers, Alabama (bio)
• Readiness – Rep. Rob Wittman, Virginia (bio)
The Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will be named at a later date.
