SKELTON STATEMENT ON THE VETERANS’
DISABILITY BENEFITS COMMISSION REPORT

Washington, D.C. – House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-MO) released the following statement on the report of the Veterans’ Disability Benefits Commission:

“I want to express my gratitude to the members and staff of the Veterans’ Disability Benefits Commission for their work on this important report.  The Commission’s recommendations will help Congress identify problem areas and develop solutions so that our nation provides disabled veterans and their families the care and benefits that they need and deserve.

“This Congress has taken the first steps toward improving the medical care service members receive through the Wounded Warriors Assistance Act, but more must be done. This latest report and other reviews make it clear that there is a critical need for a restructured and modernized disability system that is easier to understand, provides enhanced benefits targeted to special needs, and ensures better coordination of care and benefits when service members leave the military and enter the veterans benefit system.

"Again, I want to thank the Commissioners for their commitment to improving the veterans’ disability benefits system and I look forward to working with my colleagues in Congress and with the Administration to address how we can best fulfill our obligations to our disabled veterans.”
